RMLL Junior B Tier I
Junior “B” Tier I is a very competitive level of Junior box lacrosse in Alberta. There are 15 Junior “B” Tier I teams; 12 in Alberta (three in Calgary, one in Airdrie/Cochrane, one is Okotoks, one in Innisfail, one in Red Deer, one in Coaldale, three in the Edmonton, one in Fort Saskatchewan) and one team from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, one team from Regina and one team from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Junior “B” Tier I league is a stepping stone for players pursuing a position on the Junior “A” teams. For the most part, players are between the ages of 17 and 21 and develop their skills at the Junior “B” Tier I level before potentially earning a position on a Junior “A” team.
Other characteristics are:
– Approximately 20 games;
– 23-25 players per team;
– Unbalanced schedule against out-of-town teams;
– Overnight travel;
– Participate in Provincial playoffs, and
– Top teams apply to contend for “The Founder’s Cup”, the trophy awarded annually to the winner of the Canadian Junior “B” championship.
The Junior “B” Tier I league also has regional player drafts. Annually the Alberta teams in this division can draft up to twenty Graduating U17 players. The Graduating U17 players fall into the draft for the region they geographically fall into. As in Junior “A”, being drafted doesn’t guarantee a player a spot on the Junior “B” Tier I team that holds their playing rights.
