4. The Lead Referee on the floor counts the number of players on the Bench and verifies against the number of players written on the game sheet. The Referee writes in the number of players on the Bench on the game sheet. The Referee counts the number of Bench Personnel on the Bench and records the number on the game sheet. The Referee then hands the game sheet to the official scorer and reviews with the scorer and score clock operator the clock stoppages, i.e. In Major Lacrosse, the clock shall stop for ALL stoppages including Penalties, Time-outs, and Referee Discretionary Stoppages (i.e. injury), and Possession Changes with a minimum ten (10) minute break between periods.

5. At start of game official scorer writes the actual time under “Game Time Started”.

6. As game progresses, the official scorer is responsible for accounting for every goal, penalty, and time out. This is done so in each appropriate section of the game sheet according to home or visitor.

7. In the case of a goal, the official scorer must ensure that they put what period number it is scored in, the time of the goal, the player numbers who scored and/or assisted and what type of goal it was, i.e. Shorthanded (“SH”), Power play (“PP”) or Penalty Shot (“PS”). This is to help the entry of the information into the RMLL system.

8. The Official Scorer must advise the Lead Referee if a goal is assigned to a player number not listed on the roster listed on the game sheet.

9. In the case of a penalty, the official scorer must write down the period it was called in, the player’s jersey number, first and last name, what the offence is, how many minutes it is for and what time the penalty was called at. For the name of the penalty, please only use abbreviations as approved by the league, i.e. Checking from Behind (“CFB”). In most cases, it is easier for the entry person to understand if you write out the full name.

10. In the case of the following penalties:

 a. Checking From Behind (CFB) double minor penalty – enter it on the game sheet as two 2 min penalties [2 min CFB], even though the time clock will show 4 min. [or possibly more] for that player. Therefore, if a goal is scored while his/her team is shorthanded, then the first 2 min penalty will be served and the clock dropped to the second 2 min. penalty [or reduced if more penalties to same player].

b. Match Penalties – be sure to write it is a Match penalty. Make sure it has what the Match is for and has the correct time assigned (5 minutes) to it.

c. Game Misconducts must be written down with the reason for the game misconduct and a time of 10 minutes.

15. The lead referee draws a diagonal line through the lines not used for goals and penalties and circles the number of total goals and penalty minutes underneath the line. The referees who will sign off after verifying everything is correct and writing a referee report if necessary. The referees will also fill out their referee number in the spot provided when they sign the sheet.
